Physics 3310: What's Stopping You NOW??? [CSI: A Real Accident Scenario]
Welcome to Project Based Learning for Physics. This site is designed for students in a high school physics program. This project would best serve the students once they are familiar with the concepts of conservation of energy and work done by friction. This lesson incorporates Quantitative Literacy (QL) skills which are vital for students' understanding of important concepts makes important concepts much more complete and meaningful for students. Using QL skills along with the knowledge they already know to solve a very useful, real-life problem is very cool for students and for the instructors to see. Feel free to use this resource and tell me how it all went. I am always open to constructive criticism. My email: aliencow@gmail.com.
Most of us know that the stopping distance for a traveling vehicle greatly depends on the speed of the vehicle. But, realistically speaking, what about the tire and weather conditions? How much do tire condition and weather condition affect the stopping distance of a moving automobile? This real accident scenario deals with a student who was struck by a marked police SUV on a rainy night. Could this tragic accident have been avoided? Well... you figure it out.
